Our Product

Afya Tea is made from fresh cultivated Moringa in the tropics of Cameroon, a country in Central Africa often referred to as Africa in Miniature. The moisten soil, fresh wind and gentle rain in the area gives quality and tasty nature of the Moringa leaves from which Afya Tea is made. Afya Tea is processed at low temperatures to preserve all of its nutrients.

Our Story

Our Founder (Vanessa Zommi) started Afya Tea because she observed extreme low levels of tea consumption in Cameroon. . She has always enjoyed drinking several brands of teas, and yet something was always lacking. After doing several researches, she came across the miraculous Moringa tree.

After seeing its nutritive values, she decided to explore it. Together with her team, they cultivated the moringa plant, dried and infused it as tea. After drinking it for several days and developing the perfect state of mind and wellbeing, they were certain that it was exactly what they had been looking for. They jumped in and decided to start producing their own tea but not any common tea!!!.

It is one which reflects the beauty and strength of the African continent and so they named their brand ‘’AFYA’’ which in the Swahili Language means Healthy. At the beginning, they were broke and unable to supply this fortifying tea to the Cameroonian market but they were able to get some seed capital from the Ashoka fellowship, the Anzisha Prize and personal funding to somehow supply their first packs of AFYA Tea.

Today Afya Tea, represents the only African branded tea and sell in over six (6) shops in Cameroon and do home deliveries also. They currently have increasingly international demands from countries such as Angola, Brazil, Portugal, UK, USA, Germany. To get in touch with us for any inquiries, comments or suggestions please drop your message through Facebook & Twitter

Our Programs

AFDP
Afya Tea Farmers’ Development Program

Every two months, we empower aspiring farmers through our bootcamp sessions. They are trained to grow, nurture and cultivate fresh moringa plants. After successfully completing the 3-week training the farmers are given moringa seeds to start their own farms. Subsequently, they are supervised by our existing network of highly-skilled farmers to ensure quality growth of their farms. Afya Tea buys 70-80% of the monthly moringa leaves harvested and processes them into the fortifying African tea. Throughout this program, Afya Tea has given employment to 40 people who have eventually become farmers and today they a run small to medium size agribusinesses. Afya Tea then follows up making sure their output leaves from farm to market. This program also ensures the sustainability of the moringa oleifera plant through replanting and fights against deforestation.
